Dec. 21st - the shortest day of the year just happens to also be my birthday. Although birthdays seem to mean less and less the older you get, it was nice to pause and spend some time with family and friends. This past year was another good growing year and I am grateful for many people in my life. Thanks to all who helped make this past year such a good one.
This past Saturday was my wife’s birthday. So naturally, the big question in my mind was what lens to use for the birthday cake shot. (I guess that is what makes me such a great husband. Other guys would think of great presents, maybe diamonds or something… but not me. It’s all about the picture.)
I’ve really been intrigued lately with the macro lens for portraits, so I was a little curious to see how I’d like it for capturing that special moment. Although it was a bit tough to shoot with the macro, I’m glad I tried it. By the way, the cake was awesome and more importantly, it was nice to have a day to be so grateful for my best friend.
A couple more pictures from the project for Mamaw. Happy Birthday Mamaw! I hope you enjoy your present…
On a personal note, sometimes the projects that only your family will see mean more than you can possibly imagine.
I’ve decided to post a couple of baby pics today… partly because this was a recent shoot. Second, because everybody loves baby pictures - especially around Christmas. And third, because I too was once a Christmas baby. My poor brothers and sisters… all they got for Christmas that year was me:) The most memorable thing about today is that it is the shortest day of the year - which means it is all brighter from here on out… Thanks everybody for the birthday wishes. It has been greatly appreciated.
Happy Birthday Will!
Earlier this week, the 29th, was our son’s birthday. I can’t believe he is already 3 years old. He has brought so much excitement, laughter, fear, worry, peace, nervousness, crying, cars (they have literally multiplied like rabbits in our house… just don’t get it) and oh yeah… diapers:) But most importantly, he has brought more love to our family. Nothing makes you feel better than when he says “Daddy, I love you.” And then he follows it up with a big hug. Thanks for the wonderful three years little buddy… we look forward to many more.
So for Will’s birthday, we bought him a car. Don’t worry… its a used one that he’ll have to take care of. It will require him to work and do things like change the battery, clean it, work on the engine… all things that he loves to do with his mom. Besides, the earlier they learn to drive, the better. Right?
Now the other side of me is a bit worried… because if he is getting a vehicle at the age of 3, what am I going to do for his next birthday? I guess it is all downhill from here…
And for those of you who think I am robbing him of precious exercise… we make him push his car to make up for it. After all, he’s going to have to learn how to jump start a vehicle to truly understand the value of a car:)
At the neighbors birthday party I got to do a little “low-light”, high ISO testing… and I have to admit that 10,000 ISO rocks.

Been a great day! - thanks to all family and friends for the many kind words.
Yesterday was actually my birthday… and I know… it is the shortest day of the year:) To commemorate, I decided to post another pic from my son from this past year. These two being on his birthday. He didn’t like the frosting sticking to him in the first picture. The second, he had just woken up and was getting ready for family to come over.
